How to fund recurring Bitcoin payments with Monero
To fund recurring Bitcoin bills from Monero, swap XMR into BTC before each due date, then keep enough in your payment wallet for the invoice and network fee.

You can fund recurring Bitcoin payments from Monero by exchanging XMR for BTC before a bill is due, then sending the Bitcoin to the wallet you use to pay it. The swap converts the funds; it does not schedule or make the payment. That leaves you in control of the timing, but you need to allow time for the exchange and Bitcoin confirmation.
How do you turn Monero into Bitcoin for a bill?
Use a swap route that accepts XMR and sends BTC to an address you control. A swap route is the method used to exchange coins across networks. The word “bridge” can describe different kinds of routes, so check how the one you choose works. This explainer on how Monero bridge routes can differ covers why the label does not mean one standard mechanism.
Before starting, check the amount of BTC the route will deliver after its fees, the exchange rate, and the minimum or maximum trade size. Some routes connect you with another trader; others use a service to arrange the exchange. The steps, wait time and level of trust can differ. An atomic swap, for example, uses cryptographic rules to help ensure that both sides of an exchange complete or the funds can be recovered. It is still a separate exchange step, not a recurring payment feature.
How much Bitcoin should you keep ready?
Start with the amount on the bill, then leave room for the Bitcoin network fee. That fee can change with demand. If the bill is paid from a wallet that sends on-chain transactions, the sender may need BTC for both the bill and the fee. Check the wallet’s payment instructions, since some services use a different payment setup.
A simple refill plan is to:
- Check the bill amount and due date.
- Work out the BTC needed, including the wallet’s fee estimate.
- Swap enough XMR to cover that amount, allowing for the route’s fees and rate.
- Send the BTC to your payment wallet and wait for it to arrive before paying.
For example, if a bill asks for a fixed BTC amount, the amount to swap should also cover any swap charge and the fee for moving BTC into the payment wallet. Keep a small extra balance if the bill amount or network fee can vary.
Can the refill happen automatically?
Only if the service handling the exchange and payment supports that setup. A manual swap followed by a Bitcoin payment is not automatic, even if you repeat it every month. You may need to check the rate, approve the exchange, and send the payment each time.
For most people, swapping shortly before each due date is easier to manage than holding a large Bitcoin balance for future bills. It limits how long the funds sit in BTC, while still giving you time to handle delays. Check the recipient address and payment amount before sending: Bitcoin payments are generally difficult to reverse, and an incorrect address can mean lost funds.
