Ripple and Stripe-owned Privy are partnering to bring embedded wallets to the XRP Ledger, letting apps offer crypto payments without asking users to manage wallet keys. Privy announced the deal on Oct. 13, saying developers will be able to create and manage wallets on the network through its tools.
Wallets are where users hold crypto and approve transactions. With an embedded wallet, that service sits inside an app, so users do not need to set up a separate wallet themselves. The change could make it easier for payment companies and other developers to add XRP Ledger assets to their products.
What will developers be able to do with Privy?
Developers will be able to create wallets, sign transactions and build with XRP, RLUSD and other assets on the XRP Ledger, according to Privy’s announcement. RLUSD is Ripple’s dollar-linked stablecoin. Privy will provide the wallet tools that apps can connect to their own services.
Users can also export their private keys or recovery phrase, Privy said. Those are the secret credentials that let someone control a wallet. Exporting them gives users a way to take their wallet elsewhere.
Could the wallets support payments by AI agents?
Privy says its server-side wallets can let software agents hold and spend funds, including through x402, a payment standard for buying data and other online services. An agent could pay for a request automatically instead of sending a user to a checkout page.
That possibility is part of the wider push to use blockchains for automated payments. CoinDesk reported that Ripple had previously released developer tools for x402 payments on the XRP Ledger. Privy’s announcement says the companies plan to deepen the integration with policy controls and gas sponsorship, which can cover network fees for users.
What does a new wallet need before it can send funds?
A new XRP Ledger account must first receive a minimum reserve of 1 XRP before it can transact, CoinDesk reported, citing Privy’s documentation. That requirement applies even when the account is intended to send only RLUSD. So while an embedded wallet can remove some setup work for users, an account still needs XRP to become active.
The partnership announcement does not say when the planned policy controls or fee coverage will arrive. For now, Privy says developers can use its infrastructure to create and manage XRP Ledger wallets and sign transactions.
